Melanie Johnson has been named the Jones Elementary School assistant principal.
"I am excited and honored to serve the community of Jones Elementary as their assistant principal," Johnson said. "I want to thank Dr. Cleveland, the district administration team, the School Board and Mrs. Jackson for giving me this incredible opportunity."
Johnson has been an educator for 15 years and was an instructional facilitator at Smith Elementary School for the past four years.
Dr. Jared Cleveland, Springdale School District superintendent, said Johnson has exceptional experience as an instructional leader.
"Her involvement with the PLC Regional Network will continue to lead the exemplary work of Jones Elementary School," Cleveland said. "She will be an asset to our administrative family."
Jill Jackson, Jones Elementary School principal, said she's impressed by Johnson's drive and dedication to the students and families of Springdale.
“Our Jones school family is so excited to welcome a passionate and dedicated school leader to our staff," Jackson said. "It is very apparent the strong skill sets and commitment for students that she is bringing to Jones.”
Johnson has a Bachelor of Science in early childhood education and a Master of Arts in teaching from the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, as well as a Master of Science in educational leadership from Arkansas State University in Jonesboro.
"I cannot wait to begin building relationships with the staff, students and families of the Jones community," Johnson . "I look forward to serving alongside Mrs. Jackson and the amazing staff at Jones to live out our mission of meeting the specific needs of each child."
Johnson is replacing Jake Beers, who took a position as the lead elementary instructional facilitator at the district's Perry Professional Development Center.
Johnson and her husband, D.J., are both products of Springdale Public Schools. The couple will be married for 20 years in August and have a son named Jack, a recent graduate of Fayetteville High School. The family enjoys traveling and spending time outdoors camping, four-wheeling, kayaking, hiking and bike riding.
